LT1 Crate Engines — GM’s Gen V Small-Block, Delivered Across Europe

The LT1 6.2L V8 is the engine that opened GM’s fifth small-block generation in the 2014 Corvette Stingray and powered the Camaro SS from 2016 to 2024. It keeps everything enthusiasts love about the classic pushrod small-block — compact dimensions, light all-aluminium construction, instant throttle response — and adds genuinely modern technology: direct fuel injection, continuously variable valve timing and Active Fuel Management, all managed by GM’s latest engine controllers. The result is 455 hp and 455 lb-ft of torque with the refinement and efficiency no older-generation small-block can match.

At NH Race Engine in Kessel, the Netherlands, we stock and supply LT1 crate engines for sale in both wet-sump and dry-sump configuration, ready for restomods, pro-touring builds, kit cars, race cars and late-model repairs. Every engine is checked by our own engine builders, backed by a 12-month warranty, and shipped crated, insured and tracked throughout Europe.

LT1 vs LS3 — Which 6.2L Belongs in Your Project?

This is the question we answer most often, so here is our workshop’s honest take. The LS3 (Gen IV) is the simpler swap: port injection, enormous aftermarket support and the lowest wiring complexity — ideal for classic muscle cars and budget-conscious builds. The LT1 (Gen V) is the newer engine: direct injection, variable valve timing and a stronger factory tune give it more power per litre, better driveability and better fuel economy, at the cost of a more demanding ECU, harness and high-pressure fuel system. Choose the LS3 for simplicity and budget; choose the LT1 when you want modern performance, OE-level driveability and the strongest naturally aspirated factory small-block GM makes. For a deeper technical read on the Gen V platform, see Holley’s Gen V LT engine guide.

Still unsure? Send us your project details through our quote request form — we’ll spec both options with real pricing so you can compare like for like.

Popular LT1 Applications

  • Restomods & pro-touring: classic Camaros, Corvettes, C10 trucks and Chevelles gain modern power with OE refinement
  • Late-model repair: direct replacement for 2014–2019 Corvette Stingray, 2016–2024 Camaro SS and 2020–2024 Camaro LT1
  • Kit cars & race cars: light weight, 6,600-rpm capability and a deep tuning aftermarket
  • Engine swaps: fits anywhere an LS fits — dimensionally near-identical, with swap mounts, oil pans and controllers widely available

Pair your LT1 with the right gearbox from our transmission rebuilds programme, and have the complete package fitted by our installation & fitting team.

A crate engine purchase doesn’t end at the delivery truck. Our free installation guides cover receiving, first start and break-in; our tools & calculators help you size fuel systems, gearing and airflow; and when the engine is in, our dyno testing & tuning service verifies the numbers and optimises the calibration — with a printed sheet to prove it. If you’re supplying your old engine as part of the deal, our Core Exchange Program and core return process explain exactly how deposits and refunds work.

Frequently Asked Questions — LT1 Engines

Wet-sump engines carry oil in a conventional pan — simpler and cheaper, ideal for street builds. Dry-sump versions (Corvette Z51-spec) use an external tank and scavenge pumps for consistent oil pressure under high cornering loads — the right choice for track cars. Tell us how you’ll use the car and we’ll quote the correct configuration.

Physically, almost always yes — the Gen V shares the LS’s 4.400-inch bore spacing, bellhousing pattern and near-identical external dimensions. The differences are electronic and fuel-system related: the LT1 needs a Gen V-compatible ECU/harness, a high-pressure direct-injection fuel supply and drive-by-wire throttle. We can supply the complete package and fit it in-house.

Premium pump fuel (98 RON in Europe) is recommended — the 11.5:1 compression ratio and direct injection are calibrated for it. Note that the LT1 is not E85/flex-fuel capable from the factory.

In-stock LT1 engines ship from Kessel within 48 hours, crated, insured and tracked. Typical transit: 1–3 business days in the Benelux, 3–7 days elsewhere in Europe. Freight depends on destination — request a quote and it will include the delivered price, not just the engine.

Every LT1 we sell carries our 12-month NH Race Engine warranty, handled in our own workshop — plus applicable manufacturer coverage (Chevrolet Performance crate engines carry a 24-month/80,000-km limited warranty from GM). Register your engine on our warranty page after delivery.
